Housed in the attic of the early eighteenth-century church of the old St Thomas' Hospital, it is the oldest surviving surgical theatre in Europe.
The museum consists of four areas the Herb Garret, a charming area below the timber rafters of St Thomas' Church; the Operating Theatre itself. In addition to these two areas, there is also a small Ante-Chamber which joins the Herb Garret with the Operating Theatre, as well as the Bell Tower.
